The Indonesian government is promoting the development of the electric vehicle manufacturing industry in order to achieve green economic growth. Indonesian President Joko Widodo has met with Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk, inviting him to the G20 summit in Bali and encouraging him to set up a factory in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. Indonesia has abundant resources of nickel and copper, which are key materials in the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries. The government has also offered incentives including tax breaks, tariff reductions and other incentives to attract investment in electric vehicle manufacturing. Indonesia plans to produce 400,000 electric vehicles by 2025, and the number will reach 5.7 million by 2035.
